B.F. Yeates - This man is a legendary horse trainer and youth leader. He got his start in the 1950's by recognizing there were no youth shows available and felt there should be. B.F. Yeates, along with other AQHA associates, created these youth classes and was a primary contributor in writing the rules. This group was also known to have recommended the start of a junior association of AQHA. Yeates was a big help in getting members from each state in order to create a constitution and elect officers. Yeates was also the initial adviser for the association. It took 13 years of help from BF Yeates and many other educators on the committee to form what the AQHYA is today.

Long before we started selling videos on training horses, B.F. Yeates was a pioneer in the formation of clinics and short courses. He felt they were the best way to learn information about factors such as nutrition, horsemanship and horse care. Yeates was also a member of the Texas Tech's livestock judging team and implemented that knowledge into the equine world by creating proper cuts and classes for judging horses. After teaching the young and old on how to judge horses, college teams and high school FFA teams commonly have judging contests for horses. B.F Yeates became an AQHA judge in 1957 and has continued to serve for 43 years. Yeates was proudly inducted into the American Quarter Horse Association Hall of Fame in 2006.

John Lyons - One of the most well-known horse trainers in the nation, John Lyons made his mark by presenting comprehensive and intellectual training clinics and horsemanship symposiums since the 1980's. He is also known for his series of books on training horses and is the founder of John Lyons' Perfect Horse magazine.

John Lyons’ technique of creating a relationship between horse and owner is based partially on conditioning. He wants the handler to observe and recognize your horse’s responses and use consistent cues to encourage and reinforce positive behavior while learning to discourage the horse’s negative behavior. John Lyons makes it very clear that the horse’s and your safety is extremely important to understand. John teaches you to use gentle horse training techniques to help assure your safety and your horses.

John differs from most trainers in that his Christian faith is a public part of his teaching philosophy. He has won many awards throughout his career including Equitana USA's Modern Masters Award for Outstanding Horsemanship and the University of Louisville's John W. Galbreath Award for outstanding contributions to the horse industry. John Lyons continues to train in Cross Plains, TN and we offer several of his horse training dvds on our site.
